About TnHunting.Com
Tennessee Hunting Online Magazine enjoys an Internet history that dates back to 1999, making it one of the oldest Websites dedicated solely to hunting in Tennessee.
With a flurry of news releases sent to newspapers across the state to announce its debut, Tennessee Hunting Online Magazine "went live" to the Internet on May 8, 1999, as part of the Rivals.Com nationwide sports network, and with Ben Garrett serving as publisher. When Rivals.Com reorganized the following year and ended its outdoors coverage, Garrett took the concept and continued it as a privately-published Website, as TennHunt.Com became TnHunting.Com.
Tennessee Hunting Online continued to be published until 2003, when it ceased to exist. Due to a server glitch, all of TnHunting.Com's content, including archived articles, photos, and the rest of its online content, was lost.
Following an absence of nearly three years, TnHunting.Com returned to the Internet in March 2006, this time published by Garrett Multimedia, and again with Garrett serving as publisher. During its peak, Tennessee Hunting Online Magazine featured content and featured articles from eight volunteer writers, and hopes to build a library of online content similar to that which was lost in the 2003 server breakdown.
With the Website's return to the Internet, Garrett said he wants to make it clear that the site is not competing with other popular Tennessee hunting Websites.
"Tennessee hunting dot com is not competing with Tennessee Deer (TnDeer.Com) or Tennessee Turkey (TnTurkey.Com)," he says. "We simply want to help promote the hunting that this state has to offer. Tennessee Deer is by far the best resource on the 'net for deer hunting in Tennessee, and Tennessee Turkey is the same for turkey hunting in Tennessee. There's no way to offer more than those Websites, and we don't want to. What we do want to do is to fill a niche that those sites don't fulfill, primarily through bringing the latest hunting news and a variety of other hunting features to the Tennessee hunter.
Tennessee Hunting Online Magazine is published in Oneida, Tennessee. It is hosted on an Unix server. It is maintained using a MacIntosh PowerMac G5 and a MacIntosh PowerBook G4, with Adobe Creative Suite software and Taco freeware.
