Chris Walker, #84
Class: Junior
Hometown: Memphis (Christian Brothers High School)
H/W: 6-3, 230
Position: Defensive end
It didn’t take long for Chris Walker to establish himself at Tennessee. Recognized as one of the best defensive ends in the South during his days at Christian Brothers in Memphis, Walker played in all 14 games as a freshman at UT. He got better in 2008, recording three sacks. But 2009 could be a break-out year for Walker. Named Tennessee’s most improved player in spring practice, Walker has earned the praises of defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who expects Walker to be a perfect fit for his famed Tampa 2 defense. That defense relies on an outside rush to the quarterback rather than containment from the DEs, as was the style under former defensive coordinator John Chavis.
Walker underwent knee surgery following spring drills, but was ready to participate in off-season workouts that began this month.
Bonus: Florida’s Urban Meyer admits to attempting a simulation of a game-like atmosphere at The Swamp, which seems to clearly be a secondary recruiting violation. Remember that one of Kiffin’s secondary violations involved very similar circumstances. But, that can’t be, since Kiffin is the only coach in the SEC who commits secondary violations. At least that’s what the press tells us.
