David Reaves, quarterbacks coach
David Reaves joins brother-in-law Lane Kiffin’s staff after a tenure at South Carolina that saw him serve under both Steve Spurrier and Lou Holtz. He initially coached defensive tackles, then began assisting Spurrier with quarterbacks. He took over full-time QB coaching duties in 2007.
But Reaves’ biggest claim to coaching prowess is as a recruiter. In 2006, Spurrier named Reaves his recruiting coordinator. The following February, the Gamecocks signed a top 10 recruiting class, the best in the school’s history, and Reaves was named by Rivals.Com as one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation.
With Kiffin, Ed Orgeron, Jim Chaney and Eddie Gran, Reaves is just one more coach on the Tennessee staff who has served as recruiting coordinator at a BCS school.
Reaves, 30, played college football at Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. He is the brother of Kiffin’s wife, Layla.
