In its afternoon update, the NWS in Morristown declined to issue a winter weather advisory for the Cumberland Plateau, instead issuing an advisory only for the mountain areas. The NWS also lifted a special weather statement that had been issued for all of East Tennessee.

Apparently, the NWS is betting that the NAM isn’t right, and that probably isn’t a bad bet.

The NWS in Nashville continue to extend winter weather advisories further east; currently, they’ve extended them as far east as Jackson and Clay counties. It still looks as though warm air advection will win out this far east and we’ll see primarily rain with surface temperatures staying above freezing tonight. But nothing is written in stone. The possibility remains in play that there could be a big surprise for commuters tomorrow morning.
